Remote Therapeutic Monitoring (RTM) for Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy: Sarah’s Journey

It’s two days after Sarah’s first pelvic floor physical therapy appointment. She left the clinic feeling hopeful, equipped with a list of exercises to help address her pelvic floor dysfunction. Now, standing in her bedroom, she’s trying to remember the exact instructions for the “bridge with pelvic tilt” exercise.

She lies on her back, knees bent, and tilts her pelvis upward. “Was I supposed to hold my breath or exhale during the tilt?” she wonders, a wave of uncertainty creeping in. She tries again, but a slight discomfort in her lower back makes her pause. “Am I doing this right? I wish I could just ask my therapist.”

Then, she remembers the RTM app her therapist, Emily, had her download. She grabs her phone, opens the app, and finds the bridge exercise, complete with a video demonstration. Watching it a couple of times helps, but she’s still unsure about the discomfort in her back.

She taps the “Message Your Therapist” button.

“Hi Emily,” she types. “I’m trying the bridge exercise, but I feel some tension in my lower back when I tilt my pelvis. I watched the video, but I’m not sure if I’m doing it right. Any tips?”

She sets her phone down and moves on to the other exercises she feels more confident about. Less than an hour later, her phone buzzes. It’s a reply from Emily.

“Hi Sarah! Thanks for reaching out. That’s a common issue. Try engaging your core muscles more as you tilt your pelvis, and avoid arching your back. Focus on a small, controlled movement. Let me know how that feels!”

Sarah lies back down and follows Emily’s advice. She tilts her pelvis gently, focusing on her core. This time, there’s no tension—just a sense of control and ease. A wave of relief washes over her. She quickly types back, “That worked perfectly! Thank you so much.”

She finishes her exercises feeling confident and reassured, knowing that her therapist is just a message away. With RTM, Sarah feels supported and empowered to stay on track with her recovery, every step of the way.
